It may not be long before rights-holders are able to earn from audio platform SoundCloud, with a number of monetisation systems currently being tested at the company.
Speaking to The Guardian, SoundCloud’s co-founder and chief technology officer Eric Wahlforss said it’s right for artists and rights-holders to expect some sort of remuneration from such a successful platform.
At present, SoundCloud doesn’t pay royalties to labels, publishers or collecting societies, but that could be about to change.
