TeamRock is launching a country music magazine and radio show with the first mag marking the 10th anniversary of Johhny Cash's death.
The multi-platform operation, whose assets include Classic Rock, Metal Hammer and Prog, will roll out the quarterly Country Music Magazine on September 11 with interviews with LeAnn Rimes, Kacey Musgraves, Sturgill Simpson and Carrie Rodriguez to run alongside the Johnny Cash cover piece.
Ahead of the magazine debut TeamRock will launch a two-hour weekly radio show at 4pm this coming Sunday (September 8) hosted by Rob Hughes, who has presented country on 6 Music and contributed to the magazine's Johnny Cash story. The show will each week mainly mirror the content of the magazine with songs by artists in the mag being featured.
Country Music Magazine editor Ed Mitchell said: “The magazine will feature the best writers, photographers, and will document Americana and roots music at its coolest, as well as exploring the lives and work of icons like Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Hank Williams; cult heroes like Guy Clark, The Derailers and Tony Joe White; and the cream of contemporary talent like Sturgill Simpson, Kacey Musgraves and Carrie Rodriguez. If it twangs, whines or breaks your heart, it'll be in the pages of Country Music Magazine."
With regards to the radio show, TeamRock’s head of radio Moose said TeamRock Radio’s goal was to represent all genres of rock.
"Country music is a massive beast that is generally ignored by UK commercial radio," he added. "Until now, that is. We hope the magazine and radio show will expose the genre to those who are really country fans but don’t yet know it, as well as providing a platform to the already converted. It’s an exciting time.”
