Reports have suggested that Theo Paphitis has contacted HMV administrators Deloitte about taking on some of the retailer’s stores.
Retail Week reports that the Ryman Group and Robert Dyas owner is also in-line to acquire Jessops and Blockbuster stores and has been in talks with administrators PwC.
Earlier this month, following being bombarded by pleas on Twitter to save the retailer, Paphitis tweeted: ‘No HMV not for me, sadly has no reason to exist any more!’
But speaking to the Daily Mail this week, he said: “My interest for HMV harks from an era that thinks what a great brand. Often I have looked at things and thought is there something there?
“Also I could put a Dyas or Ryman in some of its stores, and am also talking to the administrator of Jessops where I have identified some shops, as well as Blockbuster.”
