Universal argues artists right to privacy in digital royalties lawsuit

UMG is refusing to hand over download revenue and volume data tied to particular artists in a digital royalties lawsuit, saying that the privacy of their artists will suffer.

The case, launched against UMG in 2011, seeks substantial damages from the label's decision to treat income from downloads from stores like Apple's iTunes as "sales" instead of "licenses."
