Universal Music has elevated Island Records general manager Jason Iley to the position of managing director for the Mercury division.
Universal UK chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge, who became chairman and CEO of the international group last week, announced that Iley will take up his new role as of June 1, replacing outgoing managing director Greg Castell.
After a three-year tenure as managing director, Castell is currently in discussions with Universal about other opportunities within the group.
Consequently, Island managing director Nick Gatfield is expected to announce a re-shuffle at the label.
Grainge says, "Jason is an exceptionally creative and focussed executive. His drive and business acumen have helped deliver a succession of fantastic results at Island."
Iley has been responsible for working on campaigns for artists such as U2, Nelly, McFly, Keane, Akon, Sugababes, Mary J Blige, PJ Harvey, Busted, Shaggy and Amy Winehouse.
Iley says, "I'd like to thank Nick Gatfield, the great team at Island and all the Island artists and management for the best years I've had in the music business so far. I'm very excited about my new job and I'm looking forward to making Mercury the biggest label in the UK."
