Leading ISPs in the US have launched the Copyright Alert System with a five or six strike rule for copyright infringing users.
Comcast, AT&T, Cablevision, Time Warner, and Verizon are the providers putting CAS in place that will see them reduce connection speeds of users that continue to break the law.
Prior to the final strike, moves are in place to send notices to infringing users warning them of their misconduct and redirecting them to a compulsory online copyright education program. Other measures include temporary reduction of internet speed and temporary internet service downgrade.
Cutting users off from their internet service completely is not part of the agreement.
