Oslo-based digital content provider Aspiro is to try and grow its unlimited-music service WiMP through Nordic newspapers.
WiMP – which has 350,000 paying users in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany and Holland - will be offered through Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet and Danish daily Politiken, after a funding injection from Aftonbladet publisher Schibsted.
Earlier this week, Aspiro reported a year-on-year Q3 net loss of SEK 23.7 million (chiefly from Aspiro’s mobile search business and online video unit). However, music sales grew 45 percent to SEK 50.8 million.
Breaking in to Poland is next on the vendors agenda, after hiring Universal Music Polska’s general manager Adrian Ciepichal and an editor from national newspaper Agora to kickstart further expansion.
