The X Factor returned to television this weekend for the 2013 series opening episode and was met with a ratings rise of 500,000 compared to the same time last year.

The return of Sharon Osbourne to the judging panel, as well as a new show format, are among factors thought to have contributed to the ratings rise.

The show saw an average audience of 9.2 million tune in to the show, and a peak of 10.3 million.
