The ITV talent show peaked at 8.5m, compared to last year's return of 9.5, and a peak of 10.6m. This series' judging panel features Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora alongside Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.
The second episode of the 12th series also saw fewer viewers, with the audition episode seeing an audience 5.94m people.
