YouTube introduces artist merchandise tool

YouTube is to now allow musicians to begin promoting their licensed merchandise from links in their videos.

Through the YouTube Partner Program, the Merchandise Annotations Tool has been launched – as a new means of monetising video content.

Artists can direct fans to pre-approved external sales sites such as Google Play, Shopify, District Lines, Cafepress, Spreadshirt, TopSpin, Jinx, Songkick and iTunes from links within their videos.

According to recent analysis from OpenSlate, the average Top 1000 YouTube Channel receives $23,000 net each month in ad revenue.
