'He has excelled at everything he's done': Warner/Chappell signs publishing deal with Alexander Armstrong

Warner/Chappell Music has today (May 31) signed a worldwide publishing deal with Alexander Armstrong.

Armstrong has previously released three studio albums through Warner Music’s East West label. In 2015, he released his debut album A Year In Songs, which charted at No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 1 on the Official Classical Artist Albums Chart – a feat that made Armstrong the first actor and comedian to top the Classical Chart. It has sold 200,458 copies to date. He released his second album, Upon A Different Shore, a year later, charting at No. 8 (182,320 – OCC) before releasing his Christmas album, In A Winter Light, in 2017 (47,485).

Speaking about the signing, Mike Smith, managing director, Warner/Chappell Music UK said: “Alexander is an amazing all round talent. He is someone who has excelled at everything he’s done - be that comedy, acting or his incredible singing and now he’s adding songwriting to that list. He’s been writing some really great stuff and will be a terrific addition to the Warner/Chappell family.”

Alexander Armstrong added: “It’s been amazing to return to music over the last few years and it feels like the right time to start singing some of my own songs. Chappell felt like the perfect home to help develop my writing. I’m excited to get to work with Mike and his team.”

Other recent Warner/Chappell signings have included Manic Street Preachers, Birdy, George Moore and Tristan Landymore.

In a hat tip to this year's Ivor Novello Awards, the new edition of Music Week is devoted to the world of songwriting.
