Kobalt appoints former BMI exec

Kobalt Music Group has appointed Nick Robinson as senior vp business development.
In his new role, Robinson will be based in Kobalt’s London headquarters and will report to Sas Metcalfe, executive vp of creative. His brief will include sourcing and affiliating new writers, artist and music publishers, artist/writer relations and creative.
Robinson has more than 15 years experience in the industry, most recently as senior executive writer/publisher relations Europe at US performing right organisation BMI. At BMI he was responsible for the signing and relationships with artists including Radiohead, Natasha Bedingfield, Mika, James Blunt, Keane, Duffy, Sigur Ros, Hard-Fi, Klaxons and Estelle.
Kobalt ceo and founder Willard Ahdritz says, “We are excited to welcome Nick to the growing Kobalt family. His breadth of experience and knowledge of the industry will be of tremendous asset to Kobalt as we expand our base of operations throughout Europe and grow our global artist and writer roster.”
Prior to joining BMI, Robinson worked at EMI in A&R for five years, three of which as head of the A&R department. Before that he spent six years as an editor at Music Week magazine and also worked at Island Records UK as head of press.
