BPI welcomes Danish court decision on Pirate Bay
15:42 | Thursday November 27, 2008
The BPI has welcomed a Danish court ruling ordering an ISP to block access to Pirate Bay, reportedly the world’s biggest illegal distributor of music, film and books.
Having signed an understanding with the UK’s six biggest ISPs and government, the BPI is currently working to address the unlawful filesharing that undermines artist investment and cost the business an estimated £159m in lost revenues in 2007.
BPI chief executive Geoff Taylor says, “The potential of innovative new music services is undermined by illegal services such as the Pirate Bay, which exploit music for their own profit without any respect for the rights of creators and performers.
“We are working closely with government and UK ISPs to encourage British music fans to use the many licensed music services that pay artists, and we are encouraged by the collective will that exists to tackle this difficult issue.
“Reducing access to unlawful and free music is paramount. ISPs have a key role to play in achieving that and today’s Danish judgment shows that it is right that they should do so.”

How exactly does the Pirate Bay exploit music for their own profit? They don't charge or even make you sign up to anything! Any web user can use their site!
Reaper if only you knew, the blood sweat and tears, that goes into making a meaningful album, Reaper ripped off..? of course, if you lack taste, sounds like you don't know where to look... for that and your deluded attitude i pity you.
Reaper.....do you question how much you pay for Nike shoes, Armani Jeans etc etc...probably not... Music is far more important than most things, most music is a labour and work of art. Happy Xmas.
Its entirely your choice whether you are downloading illegally or not, we can't force you to buy the product. Its the lack of value you place on music- you are aquiring large amounts of music from these illegal sites- clearly you love music... or do you!
Codeye Dave: The Pirate Bay exploit music hosting a database of torrents with illegal content. They earn money from the ads. Reaper: good LUCK. you need it.
Isn't that nice? Of course, it's easy enough to use a VPN to get around China-style Great Firewalls, or for that matter just a foreign proxy. But really, good job! I'll be continuing to treat items one can infinitely replicate, such as a digital file, as non-scarce. So will the rest of the world, despite continuing efforts to create artificial scarcity through increasingly unenforceable and irrelevant laws. Please feel free to adapt to the digital age, and add value consumers are willing to pay for and -cannot- replicate, or be left behind.
laughingcoyote: it's funny, you won't be the one who has the last laugh, as your losing out, but you'll never know how,
