Bon Jovi named top touring act
14:45 | Friday December 12, 2008
Bon Jovi have been named the number one touring act in the world, in the same week Music Week highlights 2008 as a “bumper year for live promoters”.
Two million people attended 100 sold-out Bon Jovi shows according to data reported to the Billboard Boxscore chart from November 2007-08.
The news comes in the same week that Music Week reported that the promoters who report their box office grosses to the magazine shared more than £168m by the end of August, with veteran and established acts – from Leonard Cohen to Westlife – proving themselves as the biggest earners on the live circuit.
Music Week also reported that Bon Jovi’s seven-night stadium tour in the UK grossed more than £13.6m.
The band put their success down to their live performance. “Whether it was a night club or a stadium we played each show like it was our biggest show,” says frontman Jon Bon Jovi.
The band are promoted by AEG Live.
