Charts go Gaga for the Lady's Dance

10:35 | Tuesday January 6, 2009

Lady Gaga looks set to score her first number one hit this Sunday, with her single Just Dance (Interscope) currently edging out Alexandra Burke at the top of the OCC’s midweek sales charts.

Let’s Dance, number three last week, sold almost19,000 copies yesterday, some 7,000 more that Burke’s Hallelujah (Syco), which has been at number one for the last three weeks . However, Hallelujah has now sold more 1m copies in the UK, edging past the tally yesterday.

Elsewhere on a rather static singles chart, MGMT’s Kids (Columbia) continues its journey back up the charts, and is likely re-enter the top 20 this Sunday, while Coolio looks set to benefit from his appearance in Channel 4’s Celebrity Big Brother, with his 1995 hit Gangsta’s Paradise (Tommy Boy) set to re-enter the top forty.

On the albums chart, Kings Of Leon’s Only By The Night (Hand Me Down) looks likely to reclaim the top spot from Take That’s The Circus (Polydor).

Other likely winners this Sunday are MGMT, whose Oracular Spectacular (Columbia) should return to the top ten, after appearing in many end of year albums polls, and James Morrison, whose second album Songs For You, Truths For Me (Polydor) will challenge for a top ten placing.

The midweek charts are available from Musicweek.com.
