Smash Hits returns for one-off Jacko special
11:02 | Friday July 3, 2009
Legendary music magazine Smash Hits is returning for a one-off issue saluting Michael Jackson.
Bauer Media is producing a 52-page souvenir edition, which will go on sale on Tuesday (July 7).
It is being overseen by Stuart Williams, managing director of Bauer Media's Music & Film portfolio, and produced by a team led by Barry McIlheney, who was editor of Smash Hits during 1986-89.
Highlights will include interviews, original Smash Hits reports from Jackson's live tours, as well as posters, songwords and the definitive story of Bubbles.
Williams says, "Michael Jackson was the King of Pop and Smash Hits was witness to his best years. I think MJ fans of all ages will welcome this souvenir issue."
"We will be paying tribute to Michael in classic Smash Hits style," adds McIlheney. "Everyone seems to be forgetting in the current tabloid frenzy that this was one of the greatest pop stars of all time."
The Smash Hits Michael Jackson special issue will be priced at £2.99.

Pure genius!!
This is a fitting tribute. I hope I can get a copy. Pop music has changed so much now but Michael fulfilled so many generations of teenagers because his career spanned the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. So everybody has been affected by him whether they were fans or not. He is the King of Pop because he transcended the R&B and SOUL genre with a worldwide appeal. He actually composed and co-produced many of his great hits unlike many manufactured bands. GOODBYE MICHAEL JACKSON. (We love you so, so much!)
There will always be only one king of pop. Me.
Just cashing in, what next a melody maker tribute wrong, wrong, wrong. Is everyone blind as to what drove this human being to become very ill and ultimately die. If they did it online and it was free I would think they had a heart. Sick, they made there money from him when he was alive now they want more from his death.
For the record. Michael Jackson was the 'self-proclaimed' King Of Pop. There has only ever been one music King and that is Elvis Presley.

There is only one King of Music. That's Michael Jackson. RIP MJ.
