Brass Jaw give British Composer Awards bite
11:55 | Tuesday September 22, 2009
Brass Jaw will be performing at the 2009 British Composer Awards later this year.
To highlight the new category for Contemporary Jazz Composition, BBC Radio 3 is commissioning composer John Surman to write two chamber jazz cameos for quartet, who will perform in and around the awards on December 1 at the Law Society.
BASCA chairman Sarah Rodgers says the British Composer Awards, sponsored by PRS for Music, are all about creativity and invention and she adds entries have been of an “exceptional cabibre”. She adds, “John Surman and Brass Jaw are certain to make the 2009 Awards a year to remember”.
Judging of the 13 awards categories is now in full swing and the shortlisted nominations will be announced on October 22 on the BBC Radio 3 drive-time programme, In Tune.
BBC Radio 3 will broadcast a series of programmes about the 2009 Awards in the run-up to the event and will also re-create the evening for Radio 3 listeners in Performance on 3 on December 2
