Spotify signs first ISP and carrier deal

Thursday October 8, 2009

Spotify has signed a two-year deal with Swedish telecoms company TeliaSonera to offer music streaming to its customers.

The deal covers Spotify use on PCs and mobiles. It is also expected to be available via users’ TVs.

The mobile offering is expected to launch in the coming months.

TeliaSonera head of broadband services at Stefan Trampus says, "We are both able and willing to bring Spotify to the Swedish people and increase the interest in a simple, safe and completely legal way of listening to music.”

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek adds, "We want to make it possible for even more people to be able to use Spotify. That is why we are extremely pleased about this cooperation agreement. Telia's strong market position will enable use to reach out on a much wider scope than before.”

Meanwhile, Spotify last night held a joint presentation with PRS for Music in Edinburgh, according to Music Ally, in which it revealed that it had 2.7m users in July, with more males than females.
