Sales down at Sony despite Jackson effect

For the three months to September 30, the music major posted sales and operating revenue of 124.5bn Yen (?0.83bn). This was up considerably on Q2 2008 but only as a result of its acquisition of Bertelsmann's 50% stake in Sony BMG.

On a pro-forma basis, Sony says that music sales in Q2 2008 would have been 128.2bn Yen (?0.85bn) and therefore music sales fell 3%.
