Last.fm goes GaGa for The Fame

Last.fm announced today that Lady GaGa is far and away its most listened to artist of 2009.
In a year that has seen the Last.fm community grow to 35m strong, tracks from Lady GaGa’s debut album The Fame were scrobbled (added to the Last.fm database) more than 18m times.
The list is:
1) Lady GaGa, The Fame, 18.5m
2) The Killers, Day & Age, 12.5m
3) Lily Allen, It’s Not Me, It’s You, 10.5m
4) The Prodigy, Invaders Must Die, 8.9m
5) Franz Ferdinand, Tonight, 8.8m
6) Beyoncé, I am… Sasha Fierce, 8.6m
7) Animal Collective, Merriweather Post Pavilion, 7.6m
8) Green Day, 21st Century Breakdown, 7.6m
9) Yeah Yeah Yeahs, It’s Blitz, 6.9m
10) Kanye West, 808s & Heartbreak, 6.6m
The interactive music site, which also launched iPhone and Blackberry applications earlier this year, also revealed a Hottest New Artist chart based on how quickly artists climbed the scrobbling ladder in 2009.
The list is dominated by UK-based artists including Florence and the Machine and Bat for Lashes, and is headed up The xx, with their eponymous debut.
Measuring popularity by dividing number of scrobbles by time and to produce a degree centigrade rating, where 20°C is considered warm and 45°C is scorching, The xx received close to 4m scrobbles since their album launched in August this year, translated as 43°C.
