GetJar delivering 3m apps a day

Independent mobile app store GetJar is delivering 3m app downloads a day.
The company reports it has delivered over 1bn app downloads across a variety of handsets to date and should top 2bn by the end of the year.
In related news, BlackBerry has announced that over 30m BlackBerry users have downloaded from the BlackBerry App World. On top of this, it says that the store is driving 1m app downloads a day.
Last week, Nokia revealed that it is seeing an average of 1.7m downloads (including apps) a day from its Ovi store.
Earlier this month, Androlib.com reported that over 1bn apps have been downloaded so far from Android Market.
Market leader Apple has delivered over 5bn app downloads from its App Store in the past two years.

The more you learn about independent app stores like GetJar, the harder it is too understand why Apple's App Store receives all the media attention. While Apple's – for obvious reasons – restricts the target market to Apple handsets (i.e. about 2-3 percent of mobile handsets), GetJar features downloads for all sorts of feature phones – the majority of handsets – and smartphones. All the top performing apps work on multiple types of handsets. GetJar is also mobile-Web friendly – some of the most popular downloads (e.g. Facebook with 74 million downloads on GetJar) are not native apps, but mobile Website launchers i.e. short-cuts direct to mobile site.
