In June, Viacom's three-year $1bn (?0.6bn) lawsuit against YouTube was rejected. The judge in the case stated the video-sharing service could not be held liable for copyright infringements by its users as it was protected by the 'safe harbor' exemptions in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Viacom has now filed official notice that it will appeal this ruling. A date for an appeal hearing has not yet been set.
