Music industry 'financially bedraggled' as gap widens between digital and physical revenues

Online music spending was $5.9 billion in 2010 and is expected to grow to $7.7 billion by 2015, whilst spend on physical formats during this time is predicted to decrease from $15 billion to $10 billion. Gartner also predicts that subscription services will account for 29 per cent of all consumers' online music spend by 2015, worth $2.2 billion.

These spending patterns are attributed to the growth of digital music services such as Spotify and iTunes.
