Apple confirms £100 iPhone
10:18 | Tuesday June 10, 2008
Apple has confirmed reports that it is to sell a low-priced 3G iPhone in the UK and Ireland from July 11.
The new handset will offer a download speed allegedly twice as fast as the original iPhone and will be available for just £100.
It will also include built-in GPS and iPhone 2.0 software, which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs hundreds of third party applications.
As with the original iPhone, the iPhone 3G will be available to O2 customers and will be sold through the Carphone Warehouse and O2.
Announcing the news at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference last night, Apple CEO Steve Jobs admitted that the company needed to make the iPhone available more cheaply, after sluggish sales.
“We’re excited to continue working with O2 to offer the revolutionary iPhone 3G to UK and Irish customers,” adds Apple COO Tim Cook. “iPhone 3G is an amazing product and we think customers in the UK and Ireland will love it as much as we do.”
