London venue gutted by fire

13:57 | Wednesday December 17, 2008

London venue Nambucca narrowly escaped being burnt to the ground last night in a severe blaze that tore through the building.

Fifteen fire engines and 75 fire fighters attended the fire, which started at 10.30pm last night and was controlled by 8.00am this morning.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson says, “There are still fire fighters there finishing up. It’s a terrible mess.”

Nobody has been reported injured but the basement of Nambucca, where the blaze started, was completely destroyed. The first floor and roof have also been damaged.

Many bands met and formed in the Nambucca, including The Holloways and We Smoke Fags. Babyshambles, The Long Blondes and Kid Harpoon are among the bands that have performed there.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This is terrible. Where are all Holloway's try-hard underagers going to drink now?
