Decca confirm Renee Zellweger to sing the songs of Judy Garland for debut album

Decca Records have today (May 10) confirmed that the Academy Award winning actress Renée Zellweger is to release her first ever solo album.

Set for global release on September 27 2019, the album will be an original soundtrack comprised of Zellweger taking on songs by Judy Garland, including Get Happy, Come Rain Or Shine and Over The Rainbow. It will tie in with Zellweger’s performance as Garland in the highly-anticipated new feature film Judy.

The soundtrack marks 50 years since Judy Garland’s premature death in 1969, and 80 years since she shot to teenage stardom in The Wizard Of Oz in 1939. Decca was the singer’s original record label.

Speaking about Zellweger’s musical performance, the two times Olivier winner and Tony nominated director Rupert Goold said: “I made it clear to Renée that I wasn’t looking for an impersonation of Judy Garland’s inimitable voice, but what I wanted was for Renée to make the songs her own and this she did to thrilling effect.”

Judy is a Pathe, BBC Films and Ingenious Media Presentation of a Calamity Films Production and is set for a UK nationwide theatrical release on October 4 2019

Decca made waves in 2018 by releasing the debut album by Jeff Goldblum. You can read our exclusive cover story with Jeff and his label team here.
