Music Week Presents: The Theft

The Theft are William Alexander and Xavier Langlais. Citing Kindness, Michael Jackson and Talking Heads as key influences, The Theft have a dark alt-pop sound with house sensibilities and afrobeat-inspired grooves ever-present. Although they've only been together a short time, the duo have already written an album's worth of material, which they wrote and recorded at home in their native Finsbury Park. The DIY approach is something they're keen to preserve going forwards, and the samples, vocals and atmospheres from these initial recordings form the foundation on which the songs are more fully realized later on.

The Theft’s first release is 'Pool Of Doubt' which was produced and mixed by Ian Dowling (Bombay Bicycle Club, Adele, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Blaenavon) and quickly received radio play from Charlie Ashcroft on Amazing Radio. The duo are also aspiring filmmakers and the video for Pool Of Doubt was their own concept, made in collaboration with Jimmy Dean (Director).

Will and Xav don't plan on waiting around, and are already working on their next single, ‘As She Crawls Back', which will be released with accompanying video directed by the pair.

The Theft have slated 2017 for the release of their debut album.
