This week we welcome London singer Amun to Making Waves. Read on to find out more about her icy brand of R&B...
KEY TRACK: So Cold
LABEL: Since ’93
MANAGEMENT: Michael Gordon & Tyrone Rowe-McKenzie
WHO: A 22-year-old British/Somali songwriter who grew up in London.
WHAT: Check out Amun’s five-track Separate EP, released earlier this year on Perpetuity Music. There’s an icy edge to So Cold, Popping hides snatched vocals in dark corners and Not Everything showcases the singer’s way with a melody.
That’s very much the vibe. There’s precious little to read online, although supportive tastemakers include Link Up TV, DJ Target and Twin B.
WHAT ABOUT THE LABEL?
Since ’93 is Sony’s freshly launched imprint, headed up by UK scene OGs Glyn Aikins and Riki Bleau. The duo discovered Amun on Snapchat, and she’s working on a new project.
Steady on. There’s an impression of a ‘softly softly’ approach with Amun. And fair enough, it’s working so far…
