New in Making Waves this week are South London five-piece Honkies...
KEY TRACK: Kicking And Screaming
LABEL: Permanent Creeps Records
WHO: Honkies are a five-piece rock‘n’roll band from South London.
WHAT: ‘Premium, synth-infused country honky tonk’, which is quite the description, really.
WHERE: Whatever your take on the South London ‘scene’, know that Honkies have been around for a while, and don’t expect them to fit in with anyone else.
Banish any thoughts of Hank Williams; Honkies are far messier than that. Their records are meaty, unpredictable and, in the case of new single Kicking And Screaming, shot through with fairground synths.
WHAT’S THE STORY?
Honkies have have built a fervent following in their parish and released a split CD with Peeping Drexels, another local outfit, earlier this year.
WHEN’S THE NEXT SHOW?
London’s Shacklewell Arms on August 22 and The Waiting Room on 23. They hit Glasgow on September 14.
