Making Waves: Insecure Men

Making Waves: Insecure Men

Each week, Music Week profiles a red hot brand new artist. This week, Insecure Men, the South London group formed by members of Fat White Family and Childhood, are in the spotlight...

Who?

Erstwhile Fat White Family guitarist Saul Adamczewski and childhood friend (and Childhood frontman) Ben Romans-Hopcraft. Their live band includes a guy called Steely Dan on vibraphone and steel drums.

What?

Esoteric and loungey, Insecure Men’s songs are drenched in drab British suburbia.

Where?

South London, of course. Saul and Ben grew up there, although Subaru Nights was recorded with Sean Lennon in upstate New York.

So this is what Saul’s been doing post-Fat White Family?

Covers LP Karaoke For One Vol.1 came earlier this year, and now they’ve signed to Fat Possum. There’s a London show at Scala on November 8, too.

So it's all falling into place?

Not so fast. There’s an air of purity to this project, but they’re unlikely to toe the industry line any time soon.

OK, is it a Fat Whites reboot?

Insecure Men’s live incarnation includes saxophonist Alex White and drummer Jack Everett of Fat White Family, but this is altogether more wholesome.
