Despacito breaks YouTube record

As well as scoring an 11th non-consecutive week at the top of the UK charts, Despacito has now claimed the record as the most viewed video of all time on YouTube.

The track by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber has now surpassed 3 billion views on YouTube, moving ahead of previous record holder See You Again by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth.

See You Again surpassed long-running record holder Gangnam Style last month as it racked up 2.99 billion views. But global streaming juggernaut Despacito was always destined to overtake See You Again at some point this summer.

In an Instagram video, Daddy Yankee gave his reaction to the song's success on YouTube: "I recognise the influence that the platform has. The music industry has changed. The rules of music have changed. And YouTube has a big responsibility, and I recognise it. Breaking the record is overwhelming, and I’m happy to keep inspiring others to do the same."
