Post: Estates and Facilities Assistant

Reporting to: Deputy Head of Estates and Facilities

Contractual Hours: 37.5 per week (Saturday and Sunday: 08:30-17:00. Monday – Wednesday: 14:30-23:00 TERM TIME) Outside term shifts are altered according to weekend closure.

Person Specification

  • Responsible for the running of BIMM London sites (predominantly evenings and weekends)
  • Excellent communication skills, planning, organisational and time management abilities are essential
  • A strong background in live sound and studio recording
  • A good knowledge of DIY and musical equipment maintenance and repair

Desirable Criteria for Applicant

  • Knowledge of music / music industry
  • Driving licence (or willingness to gain one)
  • First Aid trained (or willingness to learn)
  • Fire Marshall trained (or willingness to learn)
  • Knowledge of music production software

Key Accountabilities

Security

  • Working with Head of Estates and Facilities to train tutors regarding BIMM security policy
  • Ensuring that all site users adhere to BIMM Security policy, as stated in Student and Tutor manuals
  • Reporting non-compliance to the Head of Estates and Facilities
  • As the last person on site each day the post holder will be a key holder and be responsible for the setting and deactivating of the security alarm. It will also be the post holder’s responsibility to ensure that the building is secure prior to the alarm being set at night:
    • Check that all windows are closed
    • Check that all doors are locked
    • Check that all equipment is secure and switched off
    • Check that all lights are off and that the air conditioning system is switched off

Building & Estates General

  • Managing student behaviour both on site and off site and in the immediate environs of the school
  • Logging and reporting building faults. Working with the Head of Facilities to implement a rolling programme of repairs, improvements and refurbishments
  • To assist the Head of Facilities as required
  • Assisting with setting up of and providing technical support for external events

Equipment

  • Maintaining the equipment asset list for the building & any external venue backline and reporting equipment faults to the Head of Facilities
  • Ensuring that all teaching rooms are laid out correctly and have the requested/necessary equipment for the smooth running of the days’ lessons
  • Reacting to lecturer’s equipment requirements to help ensure excellence of teaching delivery
  • Checking equipment regularly to ensure good, working order
  • Arranging for the servicing and repairing of equipment

Cleaning

  • Checking that the college is clean and tidy, and monitoring the environment throughout the shift
  • Checking that the contract cleaners work is up to an acceptable standard and reporting any issues to the Head of Facilities
  • Monitoring the cleanliness of the toilets, reporting any plumbing or sanitation problems to the Head of Facilities
  • Ensure that the area directly outside of the entrance to the BIMM London building generally clean and litter free

Health and Safety

  • Be fully aware of all BIMM Health and Safety regulations and maintain constant vigilance that these are adhered to by staff and students
  • Work with Head of Estates and Facilities to keep H&S testing (fire alarm, fire extinguishers, fire evacuation etc) up to date
  • Reporting non-compliance to the Head of Facilities

External venues for Teaching

  • If BIMM London uses any external venue for classroom teaching, the post holder will be in regular contact with the any regular tutors to ensure any equipment held in this location is in full working order or that substitute equipment is made available and faulty equipment is repaired
