XL Recordings launches New Gen imprint with new Renz single

XL Recordings has launched its New Gen imprint with Anyting by Renz.

The London-based rapper, singer and producer contributed the track Flexing to January’s New Gen compilation, which collected songs from an array of new talent including Ray Blk, AJ Tracey, Stefflon Don and Avelino.

Renz was executive producer on the New Gen LP and becomes the label’s first signing. Anyting follows previous singles Boom Bye Bye and Ya Dun Know.

Read more about the New Gen compilation here, and catch up on Music Week’s interview with XL A&R manager Caroline Simionescu-Marin – who created the New Gen project – here.

Back in February, Simionescu-Marin saw success when XL released Nines’ One Foot Out, which went on to become one of eight 2017 UK debuts to make the Top 200 for the first six months of the year. Read more about that, and the rise of emerging UK rap, here.

New Gen & Friends play Reading & Leeds Festivals this weekend and headline a show at London’s Koko on October 6.
