Cardiff's Porter's Bar wins PRS For Music's national Music Makeover contest

Cardiff’s Porter’s Bar has been named winner of PRS For Music’s national Music Makeover pub competition.

The venue beat more than 200 pubs across the UK, trumping pubs from Glasgow to Cornwall, to claim the award, after impressing the judges with its talented musical staff and vision to give customers the best possible music experience.

As well as an upgrade to its music set-up, which includes a bespoke music consultancy from producer Steve Levine, the prize also included a gold disc presentation, which took place last week.

“I was really impressed with the entry from Porter's Bar due to their passion, knowledge and understanding of the Music Makeover competition," said PRS chairman Nigel Elderton, who chaired the judging panel. "We can't wait to see what the £10,000 Music Makeover will achieve in their fantastic venue and I have no doubt that they will be one of the leading live music venues in Cardiff.”

PRS for Music launched the annual competition seven years ago to raise awareness of the impact music can have on local businesses and to showcase those businesses that use music to its maximum effect. More recently, it has been opened up to restaurants, hair and beauty and fashion retailers.

“We're delighted, surprised and humbled to be the winners of this year's Music Makeover," said Lewis Morgan, manager and in-house sound engineer at Porter's Bar. "We will use this fantastic prize to give back to all the artists and good people who are the lifeblood of not only this venue but also this city."

As part of the celebrations, PRS held a special launch party, followed by live performances from Welsh acts Sweet Baboo and Kizzy Crawford at Porter’s.
