Jason Aldean, Jennifer Lopez cancel shows in wake of Las Vegas shooting

Country music star Jason Aldean has cancelled a string of upcoming shows "out of respect for the victims" of the Las Vegas tragedy.

The singer was near the end of his headline set at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on Sunday when a gunman opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel, killing 58 people and injuring hundreds of others. Police say the gunman, Stephen Paddock, killed himself as officers stormed the room.

Aldean, who had been due to perform three shows this weekend in California, said he plans to resume his tour in Oklahoma on October 12.

"As a result of what happened in Las Vegas this week, we have decided to cancel this coming weekend's shows. I feel like out of respect for the victims, their families and our fans, it is the right thing to do. It has been an emotional time for everyone involved this week, so we plan to take some time to mourn the ones we have lost and be close with our family and friends. Our plan is to resume the tour the following week in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

"Our first time back onstage will be a very tough and emotional thing for us, but we will all get through it together and honor the people we lost by doing the only thing we know how to do - play our songs for them. I hope everyone understands why we can't play this weekend and I'm sorry if anyone is disappointed."

The festival, attended by around 22,000 fans, also featured Jake Owen, Luke Combs, Dylan Scott and Big & Rich. "I want to say thank you for the outpouring of love from my friends and fans we have received over the last couple days," added Aldean. "You guys have no idea how much you have helped get us through this tough time."

Jennifer Lopez has also postponed the next three dates of her residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. "Jennifer is heartbroken that such a senseless tragedy occurred," said a statement. "Her thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families."

Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena does not have a concert scheduled until October 14, when it will host The Weeknd.
