Manchester Arena to reopen with Noel Gallagher benefit gig

Manchester Arena will reopen with a special benefit concert headlined by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds on Saturday, September 9.

Courteeners, Blossoms and Rick Astley are among other acts set to appear at the show, billed We Are Manchester. Tickets, priced £25 and £30, go on sale at 9am on Thursday (August 17).

All profits will go towards the Manchester Memorial Fund, a charitable trust overseen by the Lord Mayor of Manchester which will go towards establishing a permanent memorial for victims of the May 22 attack.

"May’s events will never be forgotten, but they will not stop us – or Mancunian music fans – from coming together to enjoy live music," said the arena's general manager James Allen. "Manchester Arena has celebrated over 20 years hosting some of the greatest musical talent of all time, and the significant economic and cultural impact that this has on the city means that this legacy must continue.

“Public safety is always our priority and we are doing all we can to keep people safe at our venue. Doors will open at 5pm and we are asking all customers to arrive at the arena in plenty of time and and to keep personal items to an absolute minimum.”

All customers will be screened upon arrival, any bags larger than 35cm x 40cm x 19cm will not be allowed inside the venue and no bag storage will be provided.

The venue has been closed since May's tragedy. It was announced this week that each family of those who died will receive £250,000 from the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.

A previous charity concert, One Love Manchester, was held at Emirates Old Trafford in the city in June, featuring acts such as Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Liam Gallagher, Coldplay, Chris Martin, Katy Perry, Take That and Robbie Williams.
