Royal Albert Hall adds The English Patient to its 2018 Films in Concert series

The Royal Albert Hall has announced it will show the The English Patient as part of its 2018 Films in Concert series.

The 1996 film starring Kristen Scott Thomas and Ralph Fiennes won nine Oscars including Best Score by Gabriel Yared, which will be performed live on stage by a full orchestra conducted by Ludwig Wicki.

Before the screening there will be a Q&A with Yared who will talk about working on the film and composing the award-winning score.

Lucy Noble, Artistic Director at the Royal Albert Hall, said: “We’re thrilled to present one of the most iconic films of the ‘90s as it deserves to be seen – and heard.

“It’s a lyrical, sweeping, romantic blockbuster with a score to match, and so a natural choice for our acclaimed Films in Concert programme.”

The English Patient is the fifth film to be confirmed for the venue’s 2018 Films in Concert slate, alongside Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which will have three performances from 27th to 29th April.

And as part of the Festival of Science: Space – Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Trek, and Star Trek Beyond will also be screened with live orchestras across June in full HD on a 30-foot screen.

The Films in Concert 2017 series included screenings of Titanic, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Jaws and Disney’s Fantasia.
