Six Questions With... David Kirby of Back Of Beyond festival

Welcome to the latest edition of Six Questions With..., a regular short and sharp interview with a live music figure. Email jhanley@nbmedia.com if you would like to take part or recommend someone for inclusion.

This week's Q&A is with David Kirby (pictured left), co-founder and creative director of the Back Of Beyond festival, which debuts on July 7 at Frogmore Hill, Hertford. Faithless will headline the event with a DJ set.

What was your first job in music/music related events?

I studied music at uni and was previously a pro drummer for many years, but been working for around eight years in promoting multiple music events in various genres.

How long have you been in your current role?

I created and own a small digital design agency, it was founded around 10 years ago.

What is your favourite thing about working in the live music industry?

The buzz. I like the feeling of creating artwork that generates attention and gets people excited.

What is the one thing you would like to change about the business?

Probably the overweight exposure some artists receive over others who are either as good or even better…

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

As a co-owner, hands down the Back Of Beyond festival project I am currently promoting.

What's the best gig you’ve ever been to?

Hmmm tough one… Probably seeing Pink Floyd live on their Echoes tour in the early 2000s - mind blowing!
