Ace replaces Trevor Nelson as 1Xtra morning slot presenter

BBC Radio 1Xtra has appointed Ace as the new presenter of the 1Xtra morning slot (weekdays, 10am-1pm), taking over from Trevor Nelson as of January 2017.

As part of the morning slot, Ace will also take on presenter duties for the Live Lounge slot, which has featured performances from the likes of Ed Sheeran, A$AP Rocky, Miguel, Jess Glynne, Stormzy and Chance The Rapper.

Ace has previously presented the 1Xtra weekend breakfast show (6-10am) as well as the 1Xtra drive time slot (4-7pm).

"It's an absolute honour to be taking over from the broadcasting legend that is Trevor Nelson,” Ace commented. “I'm very excited to be on 1Xtra hosting performances from some of the biggest and freshest acts on the scene in the iconic 10am-1pm home of the Live Lounge.”

Nelson, who has been with 1Xtra since 2007, will be the new presenter of the 4-7pm weekend show on Saturdays and Sundays. His Saturday show will focus on the best in current RnB, while his Sunday show will centre on RnB classics.

“It’s been an honour to be part of 1Xtra since I started back in 2007 and I have loved every minute of the last five years watching some of the biggest performers in the 1Xtra Live Lounge,” said Nelson. “I can’t wait to start my new weekend show and continue playing the biggest tracks and making the show my own.”

Further changes to the 1Xtra schedule are as follows:

· Mim Shaikh will be the new host of 1Xtra’s weekend breakfast show (6-10am)

· Twin B will host Mondays, 10pm-1am

· DJ Target takes over from MistaJam (Mon - Thu, 7-10pm), continues with his Friday, 7-10pm show, as well as simulcast across both networks on Saturdays (1-4am)

· Monki continues with her Radio 1 & 1Xtra Sunday show (1-4am)

Ben Cooper, controller, Radio 1 and 1Xtra, added: “Ace has an infectious love and energy for 1Xtra, its music, its culture and I can’t wait to hear him five days a week. Trevor continues to be a pivotal part of the station with two exciting new shows, and we welcome Mim to the 1Xtra family, as we continue to find new, young talent for the BBC.”
