Music Week Presents: Old Fashioned Lover Boy

The Naples-born, Milan-based artist isn't scared to experiment with new sounds.

He has been continually changing his approach to music, shifting from his indie-rock roots to a singer-songwriter perspective, and more recently shifting his acoustic guitar dominated sound to focus more on piano-driven melodies complemented by soul and RnB elements. On his upcoming release, 'Modern Life', Old Fashion Lover Boy comments, “It’s a song that makes me have fun; I always want to play it, it makes me want to move, to dance. Inside I put so many RNB influences and I mixed them with my infinite passion for the 60s, for The Beatles and for George Harrison. It's the song that 2 years ago I never imagined to produce and that now makes me think that I could not produce music different from this.

Drawing from a vast array of soul and folk influences from eclectic acts like Blood Orange, Frank Ocean, Daniel Caesar, Local Natives, and Dirty Projectors, ‘Modern Life’ sees Old Fashioned Lover Boy channel his love for jazz by incorporating subtle production elements and tender instrumentation. His crooning voice is complemented by a laidback beat, piano chords and lead by intricate but understated guitar picking.

The second single off his upcoming album, 'Modern Life’ will be released on the 5th of March via A Modest Proposal Records and we are able to bring you the accompanying video before anyone else. Shot in a way that makes it seem as though it is being viewed via a 90s era VHS, complete with yellow screen tinted singalong lyrics that appear on the bottom of the feed. As the listener is treated to Old Fashioned Lover Boy’s intimate solo performance, images longing for a different time are intertwined as it reflects the message of ‘Modern Life’.
