Download sales drop in Japan for first time

Number from RIAJ show that overall music downloads slid to 461.86m units.

The value, however, of the market remained flat at 90.6bn Yen (?692m).

The drop was down to a decline in the mobile music sector. Mobile downloads account for 90% of all digital sales in Japan and they fell 4% to 414.51m units.

While fixed-line download sales grew 9% to 47.26m units, this was not enough to offset the drop in the mobile music market.
