Industry split over EC's Sony/ATV deal ruling

The European Commision’s (EC) decision to approve Sony Corp’s buyout of the Michael Jackson estate’s stake in its Sony/ATV publishing business has divided the industry, polarising publishers and trade organisations on both sides of the pond.

Concerns were raised earlier this year about a potential distortion of the market, should the deal be allowed to go through, with the IMPF, Warner Music Group and IMPALA questioning the impact the purchase would have on the market.
