Stormzy readies 'genre-defining' debut album

Grime superstar Stormzy looks set to hit the big time after announcing his long-awaited debut album Gang Signs & Prayer, a release that is being tipped as one of the most anticipated UK records in years.

The self-released album drops on February 24, with distribution from the Warner-owned A.D.A.

Commenting on the release, Dan Chalmers, president A.D.A., East West and Rhino UK, told Music Week: “This is a genre-defining record. Stormzy has amassed a huge fanbase on his own, his socials are through the roof, his live shows are electric and his fans can’t get enough of his amazing music. This is the most highly-anticipated debut album to be released in the UK for a number of years, and because he’s such a unique artist the impact of this record will be felt for a long time to come.”

After teasing the album’s release via billboards across London, last Thursday Stormzy dropped lead single Big For Your Boots via BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra and revealed the artwork on social media.

“It’s been an amazing project to work on so far,” Chalmers added. “Our global plans match his huge ambitions - this is the album that will push grime to the forefront of music in the UK.”
