Tastemakers: What's The Line Of Best Fit's Cerys Kenneally listening to this week?

Cerys Kenneally, news editor at The Line Of Best Fit, on Love Is The Key To The City by Jockstrapp.

Jockstrap are still quite a new discovery for me. I heard their track Hayley back in summer when the video dropped, and the playful synth melody took me back to my childhood.

What strikes me the most about the London duo is their blend of youth and elegance. Georgia Ellery’s vocals hold a warmth that’s compelling against Taylor Skye’s obscure electronica.

Their ability to mix electro-pop instrumentals with strings is refreshing, and although they only recently released debut mini-album Love Is The Key To The City, their musical direction is supremely confident.

In fact, it transports you to a different European city with each track. Hayley sounds like summer in Paris, while Charlotte channels Stockholm’s blistering cold. They visit the sunny shores of southern Spain with I Want Another Affair, the warmest track on the record.

The conflict between strings, vocals and distortion is like finding tenderness in a tornado. The pair are only 20, and made much of their debut with a 21-piece orchestra, while Ellery made the video for Joy. They also featured on Dean Blunt’s Soul On Fire EP, alongside A$AP Rocky and Mica Levi. I’m excited to see where they go from here.
