Shazam reveals record-breaking Love Island tracks

Love Island has been routinely breaking records on Shazam this series – five 24-hour UK records have fallen in recent weeks.

Now the reality show has done it again with a new title-holder. Joel Corry’s Sorry is the most Shazamed track in one day in the UK, following its placement in the reality show. The Asylum/Atlantic single received 41,000 Shazams on July 24, sending it straight to No.1 in the Shazam UK charts.

“It feels amazing to break the UK record for the most Shazamed song ever in one day,” said Corry. “My phone went into meltdown when it happened! It’s got everyone talking, and helped launch the single up the Official Charts. I’m just buzzing everyone is loving Sorry.”

The track has moved up to the Top 20 this week. It has sales to date of 51,759, according to the Official Charts Company.

With peak ratings of 4.05 million the ITV2 show’s series finale went out on a high on Monday (July 29). It’s also been a big hit with the music industry, including new artists such as Grace Carter, Freya Ridings and Dermot Kennedy, who have all featured.

During series five, there have been more than one million Shazams based on featured songs tagged on the service.

The 2019 run of the show scored five one-day Shazam records, which all surpassed previous holder Florence + The Machine (a one-day record set in April with Game Of Thrones sync Jenny Of Oldstones).

Lusaint was the first artist to break a Shazam record when her cover of More Than Friends became the most Shazamed track in one day in the UK. The song was featured in the show on June 11 and received about 23,000 Shazams in the UK that day. The track hit the No.1 position in Shazam's UK chart on June 16.

“Shazam has been the most incredible platform for my career over the last few weeks,” said Lusaint. “To get to number one was the most amazing feeling and the support from the team at Shazam has been so humbling. The opportunities that have opened up are so exciting and I’m forever grateful that this platform has helped gain so much more exposure for myself as an artist. I’m really looking forward to what the future holds and this experience is one I will never forget.”

Two tracks then broke the same record in one week, before being surpassed by Corry. On July 1, Dance On The Table by London duo Cliq broke the one-day record in the UK. The song received about 29,000 Shazams that day, and hit No.1 in Shazam's UK Chart the next day.

On July 3, Grace Carter’s cover of Wicked Game scored about 34,000 Shazams in the UK that day. The track also went to No.1 in Shazam’s UK chart the next day.

The episode that generated the most Shazams during airing was the extended final on Monday (July 28); the most Shazammed track was Jasmine Thompson's cover of David Gray's This Year's Love.

The next biggest episode for Shazams screened on July 25. The most Shazamed track in that episode was My Love Is Your Love by Kara Marni.
