Social media, not search, drove Beatles' popularity on iTunes

Experian Hitwise looked at online traffic in the UK on November 16 - the day The Beatles' catalogue went live on iTunes. It found that 25.68% of all Apple's traffic came from social networks on that day, up from 16.59% two days earlier.

Meanwhile, 13.2% of traffic on that date came from search engines, which actually slipped from over 20% in the days before the Beatles/iTunes deal was announced.
