Beatport announces new leadership promotions

DJ music platform Beatport has announced details of two internal promotions within its leadership team.

Robb McDaniels, who joined the company as CEO in 2017, appointed the new roles.

Jonathan Steffan, formerly SVP, technology, will now lead as chief information officer, after joining the platform in 2008. Steffan is one of the company’s earliest employees, working with over 15 years of experience in technology and consulting. Based in Denver, he will be oversee infrastructure engineering, data services, content operations and IT.

Terry Weerasinghe, previously SVP, music, marketing & analytics will become chief product officer. In the new role, he will oversee all product development, marketing and artist and label relations from Beatport’s Berlin office.

Weerasinghe has worked in the industry for 17 years of which five were spent working as head of Native Instruments’ Traktor brand. He joined Beatport in 2013.

McDaniels said: “Successful companies are born from intelligent, passionate people, and Jonathon and Terry exemplify these traits. If we are going to transform Beatport from a simple download store to a next generation ecommerce platform, we need leadership and vision from experienced executives like these two gentlemen.”

Beatport is a subsidiary of electronic music events company LiveStyle, Inc., and plans to offer significant improvements to its product by Q3 of this year, investing into the technologies and systems that it provides.
