Lauren Laverne to host 2017 Music Week Awards

Lauren Laverne has been revealed as the host of the 2017 Music Week Awards.

The presenter, DJ, broadcaster and writer began her career with indie band Kenickie and, when they split in 1998, moved into the media. Formerly a host on XFM, she now presents an acclaimed daily show on BBC 6 Music. Laverne also hosts regular Late Night Woman’s Hour programmes on Radio 4.

Her TV career includes shows such as Transmission, The Culture Show, Style On Trial, 10 O’Clock Live, Film 2017 and coverage of Glastonbury and The Mercury Prize. She also hosts the Turner Prize Awards.

2010 saw the publication of Laverne’s first book, Candy Pop: Candy And The Broken Biscuits, while in 2015 she founded fashion and culture website The Pool.

Music Week editor Mark Sutherland said: “We are delighted to announce Lauren Laverne as the host of the 2017 Music Week Awards. Her unrivalled knowledge and passion for music are a perfect fit for the industry’s favourite night out of the year.”

After a record number of entries, the nominations for the awards were revealed last month, with the winner of The Strat to be announced, as ever, on the night.

The ceremony takes place on April 5 at the Grosvenor Hotel, with the after party at Drama Park Lane. For tickets, contact Maeve Nicholson on mnicholson@nbmedia.com. For sponsorship, contact Ryan O’Donnell on rodonnell@nbmedia.com.
