X Factor auditionee and cult East London legend, £1 fish man, aka Muhammad Shahid Nazir, has inked a deal with Warner imprint label One More Tune to release his infamous song.
After over 3.5 million hits on YouTube and auditioning on The X Factor, the song from the Pakistani fish-selling market stall owner has gone viral to even bigger proportions.
A statement from his label read: “People have been carping on about the brilliance of £1 Fish Man for weeks. Now, due to popular demand, you’ll be hearing a whole lot more about him with the ofishial release of ‘The £1 Fish Song’ on December 9th for less than the cost of a £1 fish.”
Nazir moved to London's East End having left his native Pakistan and his wife and four children to discover a better life. Working on a market stall selling fish, he needed a trader’s call to grab passing trade “Have-a, have-a look, one pound fish. Very, very good, very, very cheap, one pound fish."
After a video of him was uploaded to YouTube, Nazir saw himself accelerated into the spotlight. Following the X factor appearance, his £1 Fish Song was covered separately by superstar producer Timbaland and singer Alesha Dixon. Gary Barlow and Rio Ferdinand are also fans of the track as they tweeted:
“I'm still singing £1 fish! Damn we should have put him through #mistake” – Gary Barlow
“#1PoundFishman is gangster!! #FutureHit!!!” – Rio Ferdinand
The Official Charts Company has touted it as a ‘renegade contender’ for Christmas No.1.
