Forty more HMV stores are reportedly due to be announced for closure today (February 20).
That’s according to ITV which cites company staff as saying administrators Deloitte will announce the store closures this afternoon.
The news regarding the retail chain comes as Universal CEO David Joseph spoke to The Guardian about artists helping the plight to save stores with high-profile in-store performances - with Elton John lined up to do so.
Also, entertainment retailer Game has reportedly shown interest in HMV, Blockbuster and Jessops stores as its CEO Martin Gibbs says the company is “reviewing its portfolio” and “[looking] at opportunities.” – according to Retail Week.
HMV’s 16 loss-making stores in Ireland have been shut down and 66 across the UK are to be closed.
Parties reported to have shown interest in the stores include Hilco, Theo Paphitis, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Iceland.
